We are pleased to share that Kinmon Gakuen has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Founded in 1911, Kinmon Gakuen has served as a place of learning and community for generations in San Francisco. The current building was built in 1926 and this recognition honors not only the historic value of the building, but also the stories and experiences of the students, families, and community members who have been part of its history.
During World War II, the building was used as a processing center for Japanese Americans. After the war, it continued to serve as an important place for education and cultural connection in the Japantown community.
Today, Kinmon Gakuen remains active as a Japanese language school where children learn language and culture, carrying forward a legacy that has been nurtured for over a century.
We are grateful for the continued support from our community and look forward to preserving and sharing this space for future generations.
